History

In 1991, Pierre Raymond, Daniel Leduc, Michel Murdock and Sylvie Talbot founded Hybride, the first studio in Quebec to specialize in digital visual effects. The company spent its first years creating visual effects for TV series, station ID’s as well as completing advertising spots for companies such as Air Canada, Coca Cola, CCM and Volkswagen.

In 1997, Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic becomes the studio’s first project of international scope. Since then, the company has signed visual effects for over 50 motion pictures such as James Cameron's Avatar, 300, Sin City, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Snakes on a Plane, the Spy Kids trilogy and the Assassin’s Creed: Lineage film series. Hybride has contributed to Canadian / European co-productions such as Napoleon and Marie-Antoinette and has also contributed to Québécois productions including Seducing Dr. Lewis, Aurore, The Rocket, The Age of Innocence, and Yves Simoneau's latest film, "L'appât " [1].

Today, Hybride is a team of 95 artists divided into specialized units. The studio offers a range of services encompassing 3D animation, character animation, crowd simulation, SFX animation, compositing, green screen integration, set extensions, on set VFX supervision, DI colour grading, VFX editing and VFX R&D.

On July 8th, 2008, Hybride became an independent film division of Ubisoft, the third largest video game company in the world. The convergence between the 2 companies translates into shared technological and creative expertise, while Hybride continues to work with its film partners worldwide.
